1.1. Introduction

Peugeot 406 Estate

Peugeot 406 Saloon has been presented in the beginning of 1996. At first models with following engines were offered: 1.6 (1580 sm3), 1.8 (1761 sm3) and 2.0 (1998 sm3) litre petrol engines and 1.9-litre (1905 sm3) the turbodiesel engine.

Petrol engines of series XU have the top arrangement of a cam-shaft and four cylinders; the engine 1.6-litre type SOHC c 8th valves, and engines 1.8 and 2.0-litre type DOHC with 16th valves. The diesel engine from series XUD of type SOHC with 8th valves.

The engine is established cross-section in a forward part of the car, with a transmission established on the left side of the engine. All cars are equipped by a manual transmission (automatic transmission has been presented later on some engines).

All models have completely the independent forward and back suspension brackets including shock-absorbers and cylindrical springs, and also absolutely unique system доворота back wheels.

The wide range of the standard equipment and the equipment delivered under the order is provided to satisfy the majority of tastes, including the central lock, electric стеклоподъемники and the electric hatch. Air central air was delivered only under the order.

In the summer 1996г. Has been presented 2.1-litre (2088 sm3) the turbodiesel engine having 12 valves.

In the beginning of 1997 Peugeot has presented model ESTATE (versatile person), and also petrol engine V6 (not presented in this management). However these cars differ little changes.

Under condition of performance of the regular service recommended by the manufacturer, the car will be reliable and economic. The motor compartment is well designed also the majority of the places demanding frequent service, easily well.
